The weather can be sometimes unpredictable and using a weather app is useless. What I can say with confidence is it is HOT most of the time and humid. It will benefit you to carry an umbrella with you everywhere as it can randomly start raining.

Campus is about 7 minutes to town in a car and about 45min-1hr walk

Depends on where you are shopping, most places will take your card. A good rule of thumb is always ask. Some small food spots might not or street markets like the farmers market.

Taxis typically you will need colones as only some will accept cards (not all of them have the machine required)

I would also say its important to always carry some colones on you as you never know when the internet might go down at a business and they are unable to accept your card (they need to have internet for the card reader to work)

Yes you are allowed to bring a checked bag!

Packing light is the travel suggestion mostly because you will acquire a lot of things through your travels and don’t want to make your life a mess when it comes time to pack to go home and you can’t fit everything.
