My son has loved how several discussions in his classes seem to overlap and tie in what they’re learning in the CTW seminar.

For off-campus excursions, where there is a routine health care issue (such as a stomach bug), the student contacts the SLC. The SLC and student determine whether the case needs to see a health care professional (HCP). If yes, the SLC consults with the health, safety, and emergency plan, where there is extensive information about HCP contacts, including maps, numbers, hours, etc. If an HCP is sought, the SLC accompanies the student and translates as needed. If the HCP recommends follow up, including referral to other HCPs, then the SLC works with the student to do so.

@Scott Moore. Thanks for the Q about protocols for responding to health and safety issues on excursions. I can answer this briefly here in writing and in more in-depth in the breakout room. If the student health issue is an emergency situation, then the SLC implements the emergency plan, which starts with consulting the emergency contact information. This includes HCPs such as Red Cross, 911, and local emergency centers.

The emergency plan also include evacuation routes, private and public HCPs and so on.

The emergency plan is informed by the local providers and experts, with whom we have worked with collaboratively. The staff are familiar with the plans, and the plans are updated regularly so that they are accurate and relevant.

Thank you Michael Jaffe--It can be challenging when a student doesn't get the exact support they wanted onsite--so always encourage them to "use their words" and really sit down and talk out their concerns or needs.

can you explain how the semester ends or is that country specific (ie do the CR students travel to San jose for the weekend before they fly out)
